ISS Alba Fast FLIM microscope system

Function:: ISS Alba Fast FLIM system is a high-speed fluorescence imaging system that supports frequency-domain-based fluorescence lifetime imaging, fluorescence correlation microscopy and PIE. It is mounted on an Olympus IX71 microscope stand equipped with Olympus 10x/0.4, 20x/0.75, 40x/1.3 oil, and 60x/1.2W objective lenses coupled to a piezo stepper motor. The ISS FastFLIM system is coupled to the Alba LCSM. The lasers (10mW 405nm and 5mW 448nm diode lasers, and a 200 mW Supercontinuum White Light Laser) are modulated by the FastFLIM system at frequencies of 10 MHz or higher, and measurements can be analyzed using multiple digital harmonics. FRET FLIM measurements can be acquired for cyan, green or yellow donor probes, and the donor/acceptor signals are detected with two identical APDs. The APDs are capable of single-molecule detection, and the system is equipped with the ISS Alba FCS module. This enables one channel FCS or two channel cross-correlation FCS (FCCS). The ISS VistaVision firmware is also optimized for pulsed interleaved excitation (PIE) that enables crosstalk-free measurements of FCCS and measurements for FRET-FLIM from two independent probes simultaneously. The IS VistaVision software is used for phasor analysis of the FLIM measurements. The system is equipped with a stage-top environmental control system maintaining live specimen at 37º C and 5% CO2

Laerdal Medical SimCapture Audio/Video Recording

Function:: Record multicamera video and audio with capability of adding additional digital video input devices such as monitor screens. All inputs synchronized into a cloud-based viewing system for viewing anywhere with broadband connection. System is time stamped and allows annotation either live or post recording. Custom documentation forms are possible to generate checklists or other survey tools embedded in the system. Each room features two HD video cameras with full PTZ capabilities, ceiling mounted microphone with two wearable microphones available, and digital video input (HDMI) for other video devices. Resource is located in the Interprofessional Simulation Center in the Health Sciences Building on the Bloomington Regional Academic Health Center campus. Seven separate rooms with video and audio recording are available, each with an observation area with one-way glass window and a separate room for live video viewing. Viewing can also be done remotely. While designed for healthcare education and training, resource can be used for other purposes where synchronized video, audio, and annotation/documentation may be required such as product or prototype testing. Ample electrical outlets, compressed air, medical vacuum, oxygen, variable lighting, and sink with running water in each room. For healthcare product or process testing, multiple beds types are available along with a variety of clinical equipment and supplies. High-technology computer-controlled full-bodied patient simulators are also available. Ideal environment to develop and test healthcare products, but adaptable for other uses.

Leica TCS SP8 Dive confocal/multiphoton microscope

PHI Versaprobe II X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

Function:: The PHI VersaProbe II Scanning X-ray Microprobe system is a state-of-the-art Multi-technique instrument. The system provides X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) wherein samples are irradiated with monochromatic X-rays, causing photoelectrons to be emitted from a surface of a sample. An electron energy analyzer then determines the binding energy of the photoelectrons which provides elemental, chemical state, surface, topographic, bulk chemical and interfacial analysis. The technique is compatible with a range of sample classes. The PHI VersaProbe II employs a unique high flux X-ray source that utilizes a focused electron beam scanned upon an Al anode for X-ray generation and a quartz crystal monochromator that focuses and scans the generated X-ray beam upon the sample surfaces to provide outstanding micro-spectroscopy analytical performance. It is designed for rapid, spatially resolved (micron scale) elemental and chemical analysis of surfaces. The PHI VersaProbe II combines a unique monochromatic X-ray probe with automated sample handling and analysis area identification tools to give true chemical state imaging and multi-point spectroscopy in an automated environment. For sample neutralization, the electron beam scans the anode surface at very high speed to reduce differential charging effects that cause data interpretation problems with non-conductive samples.The PHI VersaProbe II is also equipped with an argon sputtering gun for depth analysis of samples, a hot/cold stage for temperature dependent analyses, and an air-sensitive sample transfer vessel. The instrument is also equipped with Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy (UPS) which provides information about the valence region of samples as well as the work function for materials.

Waters Breeze Gel Permeation Chromatography

Function:: The Waters Breeze gel permeation chromatography (GPC) system is a standalone HPLC instrument dedicated to characterizing the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polymers. It consists of a 1525 binary HPLC pump, a 1500 column heater, a manual injector, an inline degasser AF, a 2414 refractive index detector and a 2487 dual _ absorbance UV/Vis detector. With the installed three Styragel high resolution columns (HR2, HR4 and HR5, 7.8_300 mm) that are connected together, it is capable of measuring molecular weight in the range of 10E2 Ð 10E5. The GPC columns are compatible with THF. THF is the default eluent. The polymer samples must have a good solubility in THF.

Zeiss Auriga 60 Focused Ion Beam

Function:: The focused ion beam (FIB) instrument is used particularly in the semiconductor and materials science fields for site-specific analysis, deposition, and ablation of materials. The FIB instrument uses a focused beam of ions, e.g., Ga ions, and is incorporated in a system with both electron and ion beam columns, allowing the same feature to be investigated using either or both beams. Source ions are then accelerated to an energy of 5-30 keV (kiloelectronvolts), and focused onto the sample by electrostatic lenses. When the high-energy gallium ions strike the sample, they will sputter atoms from the surface. Because of the sputtering capability, the FIB is used as a micro-machining tool, to modify or machine materials at the micro- and nanoscale. The common smallest beam size is 2.5-6 nm.
