Function: This tool can be used to characterize colloids and nanoparticles, macromolecules, proteins, and more in solution. Capabilities include measuring particle size, molecular size, and surface charge. Together, this allows researchers to develop and optimize nanoparticle synthesis processes, determine stability, investigate particle functionalization and coatings, and much more.
Features: The zetasizer utilizes dynamic light scattering, or DLS, to determine particle/molecule size. Here, the tool measures diffusion, as speed is related to particle size (particles can range in size from particles that range from 0.3nm-10µm). In addition, zeta potential measurements (±500mV) can be used to determine surface charge. Sample preparation is easy as the tool can measure up to 40% w/v. Additionally, the tool provides suggests from improvement after each run to ensure quality data.
